Greetings from Atlanta! I’m on the road again this weekend, attending soccer parents weekend at Emory University.

We’ve been lucky enough to attend Emory soccer games in Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta over the past month, with an added road trip to the eastern shore of Maryland last weekend with my mother and sister.

On top of that, I handed my book manuscript off to the designers this week, which is a huge milestone. The launch of Blooming Into Mindfulness: How the Universe Used a Garden, Cancer, and Carpools to Teach Me That Calm Is the New Happy is scheduled for January 2016. Stay tuned!

I could have squeezed in writing a new blog post before we left for Atlanta, but I thought it was more important to squeeze in my annual Halloween Witchin’ Kitchen for the neighborhood, since I’d be away for Halloween for the second year in a row (bad luck with the soccer parents weekend timing).

So instead of new content, I’ll experiment with compiling a newsletter of sorts, recapping some of the content I posted on Facebook this week.

Mammogram Call to Action

This week marks the six-year anniversary of my final reconstruction surgery following my breast cancer diagnosis and mastectomy. I had my mammogram this week, and it was clear. If I hadn’t had my first mammogram at the age of 40, I wouldn’t have had that baseline comparison when the three calcifications showed up on the mammo a few days before my 45th birthday. Though caught early (thanks to my regular mammogram), the biopsy determined that the cancer cells were “High Grade” and “Aggressive”. Early and regular mammograms may have saved my life. Get your mammograms, ladies!!

My Survivor Piece in the Winston-Salem Journal

The Winston-Salem Journal published a collection of stories written by survivors. My contribution is about halfway in, titled “Parade into the Operating Room” (their title, not mine). Check it out here.

Photography Sale on November 14th at Robinson Secondary School!

I’ll be at Robinson Secondary School’s “Marketplace” event on Saturday, November 14, from 10-4. Address: 5035 Sideburn Rd, Fairfax, VA. The indoor market features more than 80 hand crafters, boutiques, home businesses, and specialty food vendors. Fun opportunity to start your holiday shopping. Come visit me and check out my prints and greeting cards, especially my metal prints that are beautifully suited to high humidity spots like bathrooms and kitchens, as well as outdoor living spaces. Hope to see you there!
