Fixed Up for Spring Growth

by | March 19, 2019 | Feng Shui/Clutter Clearing, Mindful Photography, Mindfulness, Motivation

My heart is practically bursting out of my chest today! The spring equinox happens tomorrow, bringing the energy of spring growth with it!

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, “the spring equinox (also called the March equinox or vernal equinox) falls on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at 5:58 P.M. EDT. This event marks the astronomical first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.” YAHOO!

I’ve been laying the groundwork to hit the ground running, setting myself up to harness the full power of spring. My Feng Shui February project was part of that effort, and I’ll give you an overview of my “fixes” in a moment.

First I want to let you know how I’m celebrating the arrival of spring growth at Damselwings Photography

Yup. For three days only, March 19-21, you’ll get 30 percent off of your Damselwings art order when you enter the Coupon Code SPRING30 at checkout. I won’t go into the hard sell here, other than to say how delighted I am to be able to help people bring the power of nature into their home, work, play, and healing spaces. (I LOVE this aspect of my mindfulness work!)

Feng Shui February Project Report

I’ve been chipping away at my “Feng Shui fixes” for the past six weeks. February was devoted to cleaning out all the cupboards and drawers in our bathrooms. Along with clearing out all the outdated medicine and accumulated detritus (see garbage bags below), I replaced weird light bulbs that had been out for years (bad Feng Shui right there!). I even got my husband to repaint the guest bathroom, transforming the annoying bandaid touch ups into a soothing, welcoming atmosphere.

Bathroom Clear Out and Brightening Up

The positive impact on my spirit was so palpable (and that’s not even taking into account all the woo woo-y stuff about bathrooms being connected to wealth management in Feng Shui principles), that I continued on with my clothes. In this case, pictures tell the story better, but see below for descriptions if you need them.

Clothes and Other Clutter Clearing Continued!

A. Emptied out everything from my half of the closet and gave each item individual attention (keep, donate, or consign), trying on each article of clothing to make sure I loved it.

B. Brought excess hangers to dry cleaner for recycling.

C. Donations! (Not pictured, the consignment store stop–a first for me, I think–to try to resell newer pieces that just didn’t bring me joy when I put them on.)

D. Brought change that had collected in an overflowing jar under my sink to the bank, only to learn that the bank had removed the coin counting machine. Had to roll the coins myself for the bank to take them back. Good incentive to not let change pile up anymore (there’s that wealth management piece)!

E. Very proud that my bathroom cabinet clean-out had unearthed this little sewing kit with needles already threaded in various colors (somehow the eyes of needles have gotten much smaller in recent years) and a container of spare buttons collected over a couple of decades. When I came across a blouse that I wanted to keep that was missing a button, I actually FOUND the spare button and sewed it back on! Still can’t believe it (both the finding and the sewing).

F. Didn’t take a before picture, but all that space you see under my clothes had been stuffed with all sorts of crap. I feel like I’m floating on air when I walk into my closet now. Fresh air, light coming in, positive GROWTH energy! Ahhhh……

G. Flower stem water holders, collected from the many bouquets my husband has gifted me over the years. (Thank you, Mark!) Took them back to the florist for recycling.

H. Bad luck or good luck??? When I was kneeling on the floor sorting some jewelry, out of the blue the mirror over my husband’s sink just fell off the wall. I took this photo seconds afterwards, surrounded by glass (and, according to Mark, strangely calm). I remembered my grandmother saying something about broken mirrors being bad luck. But I came through without a scratch! So I’m taking that as good luck. It’s all about your mindset, right?

In another bad luck or good luck story, not pictured here, our garbage disposal broke. The repair forced me to empty and clean out the messy space under the kitchen sink as well. So a real life example of “all of that plus the kitchen sink.” (Maybe that’s not really a saying, but it sounds sort of familiar.)

And with that, I’ll sign off from this late winter’s Feng Shui fix exercise.

I’ll lasso this momentum, though, and channel it into other positive directions. Energized!

How about you? Have you taken some intentional steps to remove annoying energy sources from your space? How are you setting yourself up to ride the wave of spring growth? I’d love to hear about it!
