The Positive Effects of Gardening

Recording day with “The Positive Brain” Podcast Hosts Peggy Breda and Toni Reinhart

My garden was my first mindfulness mentor, but lately it’s received less of my time as other purposeful opportunities have arisen at this stage of my journey. That’s why it was such a delight to chat about the positive effects of gardening on “The Positive Brain” podcast with Peggy Breda and Toni Reinhart. Peggy and Toni do incredible work to support dementia patients and their caregivers and use their podcast as part of that mission.

They were interested in hearing about how I got started with gardening — discovering inner calm for the first time while digging in the dirt. We talked about some of the neuroscience behind why gardening grounds us in the present moment, bringing a greater sense of peace and clarity to our life experience. And we discussed some of the ways gardens and gardening can be helpful to dementia and Alzheimers patients, as well as specialized gardening tools and design ideas.
