If you have been following my work for a while, you know that trees have become important teachers for me over the course of my mindful photography journey. It started with feeling an intimate connection with old growth redwoods while in California for my Search Inside Yourself teacher training. In 2023, Colorado’s aspen trees have been my most powerful guides. As promised in my last post, my favorite aspens from my September visit are below.
But first, some context…
I took a sabbatical this year from the commercial side of my photography work because I felt a heaviness weighing down my creativity and ever growing “shoulds.” That decision freed up space (on my calendar and in my head) for me to explore new ways of creating pictures of my direct experience with Nature.
Just as emotions manifest as physiological experiences in our bodies before we attach language to them, I am still in the process of finding words to explain why the images below are my favorites from my September 2023 trip to Crested Butte, Colorado. New human teachers this year have added pockets of clarity to my explorations, but I am still not at the point where I can articulate fully why these pictures evoke such alignment at my soul level.
So, because words are insufficient, I’ll let the pictures do the talking, with just a few brief captions.
And for some more traditional views, here’s a short video montage.
I’d love to hear which are your favorites (and why)!
Though my sabbatical includes taking a break from offering a holiday art show this year, you can set up a one-on-one call with me if you are interested in ordering wall art or other Damselwings Photography products.
