If you are a Damselwings subscriber, you may have seen a mention or two about a new project I am co-creating on Instagram with my dear friend and fellow Sage photographer Melissa Maillett. Here’s an example of what we’re playing with @the_sage_photography_project …
In times of uncertainty, when the ground feels like it’s shifting under my feet, photographing trees – or even just looking at images of trees – brings me back to stability.

Stronger Together
Trees have seen it all, have withstood it all, and have continued to grow through it all. Trees just continue being themselves, with no drama, no comparisons, no judgements.

Embodied
Trees speak directly to my Sage awareness, reminding me that I, too, can keep my roots firmly planted no matter the weather patterns. These quiet conversations soothe my nervous system and bolster my resilience.

Rooted
All of these images are printed on canvas in my home office. When I find myself stressed or activated by my inner saboteurs, I need only to look up from my desk and rest my attention on the trees for a moment or two to regain my perspective.

Sister Pine
Cool research backs up the benefits of nature-based art. In healthcare settings, for example, studies have shown that nature images can improve patient outcomes, reduce stress, and boost the immune system. So along with being an extension of our eyes, our heart, and our hands, Sage photography can be an extension of our medicine cabinet as well!
