Damselfly Inspiration

Damselfly perched on a green leaf

Damselwings is inspired by the resilience and grace of damselflies. With a life cycle that takes them from water-dwelling nymphs to winged adults, damselflies symbolize transformation and change in many cultures worldwide.

Fun facts about damselflies (and how they are different from dragonflies):

  • Damselflies move at a slower pace and take more circuitous routes than their larger and speedier dragonfly cousins, but they have still survived for more than 250 million years.
  • Both damselflies and dragonflies have almost 360 degree vision. The difference is in the location of their eyes. Damselfly eyes are separated on either side of their head like a hammerhead shark. Dragonflies’ eyes, in contrast, join in the middle of the forehead.
  • Damselflies rest with their wings folded neatly down their backs, a small footprint but mighty presence. Dragonflies rest with their wings splayed wide open.
  • Damselflies are kinder to one another compared to dragonflies. Dragonflies are cannibals, indiscriminately eating their own species even if other food sources are available. Damselflies are carnivorous predators too, but they don’t eat each other nearly as often as dragonflies do.

Logo Evolution

My original Damselwings logo, designed for my book imprint, was a damselfly in flight. A decade into the journey, it’s time for a fresh representation of my purpose work.

The resting damselfly in my new logo, like my work as a whole, invites people to STOP.

Stop
Take a breath
Observe what’s truly happening in the present moment, and
Proceed with more skillfulness

The logo colors align with the interpretation of damselfly colors in some spiritual traditions. For example:

  • Blue damselflies may symbolize communication, clarity, and self-expression.
  • Green damselflies can represent growth, rejuvenation, and healing.
  • Yellow damselflies can signify joy, happiness, and positivity.

My Damselwings offerings – pulled from multiple schools of thought, modalities, and lived experience – cultivate each and every one of these traits.

It’s my greatest privilege to do this work. I’d love to accompany you!
