How do you like my newest photography award winner, Hibiscus Abstract Sepia?
When I was notified a couple of weeks ago that my entry had won the “Abstracts of Nature” category in the 2017 Annual Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens Photography Competition, I thought I had to keep my excitement, or at least the image, a secret until the awards ceremony at Kenilworth on October 21st.
The problem is, my home art show was already on the books for the same day, so I’ll have to miss the party at Kenilworth, which sounds like it will be really cool since it will also be Harvest Jazz Night at the gardens. But Kenilworth has already shared the winning images publicly, so I don’t have to restrain myself anymore!
Since I will be missing the award ceremony, I’ll do my best to replicate the celebratory atmosphere at my home event. If you’re local, I hope you can stop by from 3 – 6 pm to see Hibiscus Abstract Sepia and the rest of my collection of metal prints and new notecard selections, including some holiday-themed products.
This is my first time hosting a home art show!
I turned down a few invitations to shows this year since I’ve been so busy with speaking events and mindfulness programs, so this is the only time in 2017 that a critical mass of my photography work will be on display in one place. Along with the hibiscus image above, I’m thrilled with how the rest of my favorite shots this year turned out in print. As I type this, my new metal print display pieces are on their way across the country in a UPS truck.
Many of you helped to choose my new pieces by weighing in on previous blog posts. Your butterfly votes after my visit to Brookside Gardens helped me decide on one of my new greeting card collections, as did your feedback on the lotus and water lily shots I took at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this summer. So THANK YOU for your help, support, encouragement, and all around cheerleading. I LOVE how I feel when I look at these images almost as much as I LOVE how these images make other people feel. Joyful and grounded!

In honor of breast cancer awareness month, I’ll be donating a portion of the proceeds to Metavivor.org to support its work with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer research and patient support.
And if you’re not local, you can head on over to damselwingsphotography.com and check things out. If you sign up there for my photography mailing list, you’ll get a coupon for 20% off your first order. A portion of October sales on the website will also go to Metavivor.org. So you can DO good while making your home LOOK good, all of which makes you FEEL good.
FYI, at the moment I don’t have notecards for sale on the website since I need the inventory for the home show (again, first time doing this so don’t really know how to estimate how much to have on hand!). Check back with damselwingsphotography.com in a few weeks, as I will add notecards to the website product selection after I have restocked. If you sign up for the mailing list there you’ll be the first to be notified!
Thanks again, everyone, for being part of this gratifying journey!
