Speaking

Me speaking to World Bank

I love connecting with participants in my interactive workshops, keynotes, and customized talks to inspire mindfulness at home, at work, and in community.

Why Damselwings?

Martha speakingMy personal journey has taken me from being a Type A, stressed out international economist, screaming mom, and breast cancer patient to a certified mindfulness teacher and mental fitness coach.

What I hear most frequently from my clients is that my experience is their experience, that my personal story and down-to-earth, evidence-based approach inspire even the most skeptical to give mindfulness practice a try.

My talks and workshops combine mindfulness, emotional intelligence, positive intelligence, and neuroscience to deepen awareness and inspire the cultivation of new ways of being. Audiences take home practical strategies and tools to cultivate calm, clarity, well-being, mindful communication skills, resilience, and alignment with purpose.

Here’s a taste of the energy I bring to a room from a breakout session I facilitated for the Women’s Center 33rd Annual Leadership Conference in Tysons, Virginia.

Testimonials

“I had the enormous privilege of attending Martha’s Search Inside Yourself practicum. It was such an enriching experience, which was possible because of her impeccable delivery. All the material in the workshop was explained in a very clear manner, the examples were relatable and overall provided very practical tools for applying mindfulness in everyday life. Martha is truly an inspiration of resilience. After the workshop, I came back to my regular work feeling empowered to take on new challenges. Very grateful for this experience and highly recommend it to anyone who is seeking both to enhance their performance at work, as well as personal growth.”

~Anjali Shahani, Consultant at World Bank Group

“I’ve had the sincere pleasure of being the recipient of Martha’s wisdom and knowledge in a couple of different scenarios. I participated in the 30 Day Mindfulness Meditation Challenge and then again the follow up 15 Day Meditation Challenge. Both programs were so insightful and useful with tools that I could apply immediately. I was so impressed, I asked Martha to create and conduct a workshop for my group at the IMF (job seeking spouses/partners of IMF staff members). The workshop, “How to Reinvent Yourself to Flourish in New Life Chapters: Mindful Tools to Connect with Purpose, Build Resilience, and Live with Intention” was a huge success. The tools were immediately applicable, the information and research was current and relevant, the exercises were helpful in applying the knowledge/tools. The attendees were asking for more immediately after the workshop. I give Martha the highest recommendation possible. She has a gift for teaching, speaking and connecting.”

~Sheila McKenna, Career Coach and Advisor at The International Monetary Fund

“Before the 30-Day Mindfulness Meditation Challenge I spontaneously reacted to events based on how I felt and thought at the time. This led me to sometimes be discontent and critical regarding how I responded. Thanks to this program I see that I can step back and observe how I’m feeling and thinking before I respond. This has helped me to be more proactive in responding to events and as a result I’m a much calmer and thoughtful person”

~Maureen, Senior Economist, Legislative Branch

“Martha’s expertise is based on extensive research, study of the brain and personal practice. Her teachings explain the science, show us how to apply meditation principles and encourage exploration. At every turn of our challenge, she offered more information: books, apps, websites, blogs, other meditation techniques and teachers, and her personal experiences. I have learned how a part of the brain functions and that we can guide our inner voice.”

~Laura Skoff, CAE, Virtual Management Innovator, Executive Director and Interim COO, Team Dynamics, Inc.

“Martha Brettschneider co-presented a Mindfulness in the Workplace workshop with me and explored the concept of intentional decision making vs. reactive responses from a cognitive perspective. Her practical exercises, concise and engaging presentation skills and on-the-spot connections with the audience were inspiring and effective. I enjoyed collaborating with Martha and together we created a high-quality workshop that received 100% positive reviews.”

~Friderike Butler, Human Potential Catalyst, Leadership Coach, Team Facilitator, Developing Creative Leaders, Butler Communications, LLC

“I have known Martha for 25 years and have seen her grow in her practice of presence and mindfulness through the struggles she has faced with health, challenges parenting, and her work. She has developed such a calm wisdom. As I am a Buddhist for 20 years, I suggest much of this is due to her consistent meditation and mindfulness-gardening-photography practice, which has brought her to the present moment again and again. I am delighted she is teaching, speaking, writing and motivating!”

~Jindra Cekan and Cekanova, PhD, Sustainability and Impact Technical Expert, Presenter, Writer

“I’ve had the pleasure of attending Martha’s mindfulness training workshops and have participated in two of Martha’s mindfulness meditation challenge courses. I appreciate the breadth and depth of Martha’s skills and knowledge in mindfulness techniques–which she delivers in a straightforward and accessible way, allowing immediate integration of practices that meaningfully impact well-being for body and mind. Her rich and insightful offerings provide new “tools for the toolbox” every time. I highly recommend Martha as a mindfulness expert, speaker, trainer and facilitator!”
